SMART Goals: 5 Smart Steps to Accomplish Your Any Goal

Have you ever set a goal but abandoned it halfway or got overwhelmed with what to do next? If so, you are not alone. Not too long ago, I made the same mistake of setting goals like

I want to get healthy.

I want to become a famous writer.

I continued the hard work for five days or a week, but sooner, my excitement vanished due to the vagueness of these goals. I was overwhelmed with what to do next.

Setting goals is essential to appoint your direction, but without a clear roadmap, we lose our motivation.

There are 5 smart steps that I took in overcoming the vagueness of my goals and working hard to achieve them without getting lost. These 5 smart steps can help you to realize any of your goals. The word SMART is an acronym for

S — Specific

M — Measurable

A — Action

R — Relevant/Realistic

T — Time Bound

Step 01: Be Specific

Do not make vague statements. Be specific about what you want to accomplish. Define your objective clearly. Instead of “I want to become a famous writer.” say, “I want to become a content writer in a personal growth niche within a year by publishing 250 words blog post daily on LinkedIn.”

Step 02: Measurable

How would you track your progress? Establish a scale or a metric to measure if you’re succeeding. My measurable metric is audience analytics on my blog.

Step 03: Actionable

Create a blueprint of how you are going to achieve your goal. Writing 250 words blog daily for a year on LinkedIn is an actionable and achievable goal.

Step 04: Relevant/Realistic

Writing daily on LinkedIn is realistic and relevant to my long-term goal of becoming a content writer.

Step 05: Time-Bound

Without a deadline, we all procrastinate. Deadline establishes a sense of urgency and pushes you to work towards your goal. 1-year deadline is my timeframe.

By taking these five smart steps, you can maximize your chances of accomplishing your goals. James Clear in Atomic Habits says, “Don’t focus on goals, focus on the system.” Setting a vague goal is not enough. Make your goal a smart systematized approach towards success. Start today, and the next year on this same day, you will be the person you wanted to be.
