Day Wasted in Procrastination: What I Learned from Doing Procrastination Which You Use to Avoid It.

--

After five days of working, we had many thoughts in our mind about doing certain tasks on weekends. But when our weekend arrives, we find ourselves procrastinating — feeling like we have no energy left in our body to do a workout, captured by the monster of binge-watching a drama series, endlessly scrolling on social media, or sleeping if we get tired.

What I did was binge-watch two series; Monarch: Legacy of Monsters and the Foundation. Then, I thought to myself that I would watch Instagram reels for 20 minutes and get back to writing my research report, but I lost count of time, and I could not recall for how long I scrolled on Instagram.

The common feeling, we all have after endless scrolling on social media is a surge of depressed feeling. To cope with this feeling, we either start scrolling again by changing the social media platform or sleeping (which I usually do).

We procrastinated because we were not feeling happy. Why we were not happy? Because we were so stressed about our future — money, fame, power, next promotion, securing a job or not getting internships and many others. Maybe we are not happy because someone said something that hurt us deeply, maybe we got bullied or maybe someone broke our heart.

Maybe the task itself is too big that we just feel anxious even just thinking of doing it.

Understand the source of procrastination and address it accordingly. Merely knowing is half the battle. Address the source. If someone made you unhappy in the parking lot because you had to wait for 20 minutes for them to come to take out their car, that person does not deserve the privilege you are taking away your whole weekend.

This fallacy prevails that just knowing how to avoid procrastination is enough for us to overcome it. That is not how the game is played. You already know the solutions. Double down on it.
